You Gotta Love Valentine’s Day

According to history.com, each year on February 14, many people exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special “valentine.” The day of romance we call Valentine’s Day is named for a Christian martyr, St. Valentine, and dates back to the 5th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday “Lupercalia.”

Did you know … ? There is a “National Valentine Collectors Association.” The president, Nancy Rosen, claims that she may have 10,000 pieces in her collection of Valentine’s and all kinds of expressions of love. She says her favorite are the handmade pieces.

The top things to give or do for your “love” on Valentine’s Day:

Cards
Candy
Flowers
Jewelry
a romantic dinner or night out

But perhaps we should take a cue from Nancy Rosen this Valentine’s Day and, rather than buying a card at Walgreens, Target, or the grocery store along with our food and toilet paper, MAKE a card by-hand and show our love how much he/she means to us. Don’t worry that it’s not good enough for anyone else to see, just do it!

Valentine’s Day, like a lot of other holidays, is a huge industry. If you go to Amazon and search for “Valentine’s Day gifts,” there are so many categories to choose from – you can, as they say on their website, find “the perfect gift for every Valentine.” The categories include:

Gifts for Her
Gifts for Him
Beauty
Books
Flowers
… and more

So, let me just say Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Have a day filled with love and beauty!
