The Amazing Tom Brady and the Patriots

The title of this article is “The Amazing Tom Brady and the Patriots” because it is difficult, if not impossible, to think of Tom Brady without also thinking of the New England Patriots. The New England Patriots are arguably one of the best, if not the best, football team in the NFL today.

On February 5, 2017, during Super Bowl 51, history was made more than once. Tom Brady and the New England Patriots earned their 5th Super Bowl ring and Lombardi trophy. In addition, it was the first time in history that the Super Bowl game has gone into overtime. Tom Brady also led one of the greatest comebacks in sports history when Julian Edelman caught a pass that helped lift New England from a 25-point deficit against the Atlanta Falcons.

Tom Brady won Super Bowl MVP for a record fourth-time, finished 43 for 62, the most attempts in Super Bowl history, for 466 yards, also a record, and two touchdowns. He is amazing and, as usual, he was gracious and polite, unlike some football thugs, when he said, “You know, we all brought each other back,” Brady said. “We never felt out of it. It was a tough battle. They have a great team. I give them a lot of credit. We just made a few more plays than them.”

Bill Belichick, coach of the New England Patriots, became the first coach with five Super Bowl crowns. Super Bowl 51 is clearly one for the history books. Even with New England’s 52-yard drive to Stephen Gostkowski’s 41-yard field goal, the score was 21-3 at halftime.

A bit more information about Tom Brady. He is 39 years old which, for a professional athlete, especially a football player, is considered old. He is extremely good-looking and is married to a Brazilian supermodel. This season, Brady was suspended for four games at the start of this season for “Deflategate,” a silly name for allegations that the Patriots intentionally underinflated footballs used during their AFC Championship game victory. The NFL decided that Brady had a role in it and, as a result, a federal court sided with the NFL, Brady served his suspension, and the NFL fined the Patriots $1 million and took away two of their draft picks. But, all of this apparently didn’t affect the Patriots ability to win.

The moral of this story, for me, is that with determination and perseverance anything is possible. I am pretty sure people will be talking about whether Tom Brady should retire now that he has attained such greatness, as well as his old age. Everyone talks about leaving while you’re on top but I, for one, hope he continues to play because the game of football wouldn’t be nearly as exciting without him.

Congratulations to Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the Patriots!
